Sir, - I am delighted to see that the AA is taking an interest in the QBCs (bus lanes) which will shortly run in both directions from Stillorgan to St Stephen's Green.
These are being introduced without any consultation with the, already harassed, private motorist commuters who will be further severely inconvenienced when the available roadway is reduced by a half or a third and travelling time increased accordingly.
Do the authorities involved really believe a third of us will leave our cars at home and commute by bus? I would travel by bicycle but refuse to walk or carry the bike between the bus station at Donnybrook and the Royal Hospital, Bloomfield Avenue, where the cycle lanes mysteriously disappear.
As a corporate member of the AA, I call on all motorists to join in a campaign for the abolition of bus lanes. I travel this route Monday to Friday between 7.45 and 8.00 a.m. and I seldom, if ever, encounter a bus in what will be the QBC. - Yours, etc., Desmond E. Campbell,
