Sir, – Bernard Carroll (July 30th) lamented the loss of the GR post box from Lower George’s Street in Dún Laoghaire. I have seen it lying in the depot yard of An Post. It was identified to me by An Post officials as the box that stood in George’s Street. The base of it was damaged beyond repair, according to themselves, while they were removing it in an attempt to apparently “reposition it outside the post office”. This box lay in the yard, near the fine double-box removed from Erne Street. All of these have been replaced with the tat of the square boxes on poles. – Yours, etc,
