Sir, - May I heartily endorse the comments of Lynne Rose (February 20th)? As a regular traveller on the DART, I am constantly reminded of the Irish public's immunity to the sight of litter in its broadest sense, and its effect on our environment.

The once-immaculate German rolling stock carries us from shabby station to equally shabby station, each furnished with a superfluity of vandalised, graffiti-adorned signs, overflowing litter containers, and junk-filled track, by way of linear rubbish dumps.

While I have to admit that a few station masters do appear to make an effort at keeping their property reasonably tidy, the reminder ignore the problem. It really is time that CIE cleaned up its act. - Yours, etc., Brian Doran,
