Sir, – I note the recent article quoting Bertie Ahern’s comments on Irish local authorities, ie that it is “wrong” that the chief executives of local authorities such as Dublin City Council have to “go around and beg and plead for money” (“Directly-elected Dublin mayor a ‘stupid idea’, says Bertie Ahern”, News, May 23rd).
Perhaps he should have given them a digout and organised a whip-round. – Yours, etc,
