Sir, – Further to the letter on “The dangers of a cashless society” (May 13th), I believe every citizen has the right to privacy around their purchases, and cash allows for this. It is critical that the choice to use cash is maintained. I have noticed that when one has had a drink, a meal, or used a service, cash will usually reluctantly be acceptable if it is a choice between non-payment or payment. – Yours, etc,
