The second phase of the construction of a £4.6 million harbour on Tory Island, which has 110 inhabitants, is scheduled to begin in April. The construction programme, which will take two years to complete, is under the control of the Department of the Marine and the Department of the Gaeltacht. Dredging operations were completed last year with the removal and dumping of tens of thousands of tonnes of silt in the Atlantic. The island lies II miles out from the Donegal coast.
