Woman killed in Westmeath crash

A woman aged in her 40s had died and two children been injured in a car crash in Co Westmeath this evening.

A woman aged in her 40s had died and two children been injured in a car crash in Co Westmeath this evening.

The woman was the driver of a car which collided with a second vehicle at Ballagh on the Delvin road outside Mullingar at about 6pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while two passengers in the car, aged 7 and 14, were taken to the Midland Regional hospital in Mullingar. The younger child is described as being in a critical condition while the 14-year-old has minor injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, a male in his 40’s, was taken to Tallaght hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.

The road is currently closed pending completion of an examination by forensic investigators. Diversions are in place.
