A judge has given a young woman who admitted sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl three weeks to leave the area in which they both live.

The woman (20), who now lives in north Co Dublin and is a mother of two, pleaded guilty at Dublin Criminal Court to three charges of sexually assaulting the girl in 1994. Judge Patrick McCartan remanded her on bail until February 11th, telling her: "You will not go to prison as you are young and have a future ahead of you." Garda Majella Frewen told Ms Roisin Lacey, prosecuting, that two of three sexual assaults mainly involved "touching" and occurred in a house where the woman, who was then at school, was a babysitter. The victim would visit this house to play with children there. Garda Frewen said the third incident took place in a field. The abuses came to light when the victim told a teacher during a "stay safe" programme.
