A key witness to the killing of Catholic community worker Kevin McDaid was granted bail yesterday as he appeals being jailed for disorderly behaviour. Lord Justice Coghlin banned Peter Neill from associating publicly with more than two people.
Neill (41) of Hazelbank Road, Coleraine, was sentenced to four months this week. He was found guilty of causing disorder at Hillcrest Road in the town on December 26th, 2008.
Neill is one of the main prosecution witness in the case against those accused of murdering Mr McDaid (49) in May 2009. The father of four was beaten to death when mob violence erupted in Coleraine, allegedly over the erection of Irish Tricolour flags.
Lord Justice Coghlin said he could be allowed to live at his home address under strict conditions. “He is not to associate publicly with more than two other people on any occasion,” the judge directed.
