Solicitors who deal with cases involving minors were warned yesterday to pay particular attention to the interests of the young people. The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Smyth, said he would take a "tough line" with anyone found negligent in dealing with claims involving children.

Judge Smyth was dealing with two cases in which unacceptable delays had occurred in the lodging in court of compensation awarded to minors. In one case, the judge was told there had been a delay of two years in lodging the money. However, the solicitor involved had agreed to pay compensation to meet any loss of interest.
