Aston Villa have signed goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen from relegated Sunderland after he passed a medical on Friday, the premier league club's official website said.
The 27-year-old Denmark international, who has signed a three-year deal, was reported to have cost 2.25 million pounds ($3.6 million) although Villa did not confirm the figure.
He will join his team mates on a two-day trip to Dublin where he could make his debut in a friendly against premier league rivals Leeds United on Saturday, the website said.
Sunderland midfielder Gavin McCann also moved to the central England club last month, also for 2.25 million pounds, while Sunderland's French forward David Bellion joined Manchester United on a free transfer.
Sunderland also announced in a statement to the London Stock Exchange on Friday that players and officials at the club had agreed to a deferral scheme on part of their wages. In April this year, they revealed a net debt of £26.6m ($43.55 million).
"We have been working on a broad financial re-structuring for several months now to adjust to the realities of life outside the premier league and the deferral scheme is one part of this," said chairman Bob Murray.
The statement was issued in conjunction with the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), the domestic players' union, who were consulted last month in an effort to solve the wages crisis at the club.
Sunderland have agreed a three million pound ($4.83 million) fee with premier league Southampton for their former England striker Kevin Phillips but added that "there was no certainty that the transfer will ultimately be concluded" as personal terms have not been agreed.
The statement said that the transactions "are both part of adjusting to life in the first division".
