US plane makes emergency landing in Shannon

A US military aircraft was forced to land at Shannon airport this afternoon after reporting a fuel leak.

The plane was en route from Britain to the United States but was diverted to Shannon.

An emergency was declared on board the flight which left military base Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, around 2 p.m.

There were 21 people on board, including passengers and crew, an Aer Rianta spokeswoman said. The flight was heading for a US military base.
