Dublin - The United States yesterday denied it blocked Iraqi weapons inspections following charges by an ex-member of the UN Special Commission (Unscom) that at least six inspections had been stopped since November under pressure from Washington.

The deputy national security adviser, Mr Jim Steinberg, did acknowledge that Washington had discussed with the Unscom chief, Mr Richard Butler, "our perception of the most effective way to get inspections to go forward."
