Chicago - A jury found US anti-abortion groups guilty of violating federal racketeering laws by staging protests at abortion clinics across the US. Yesterday's landmark verdict could cost Operation Rescue, the Pro-Life Action Network and three anti-abortion activists millions of dollars if the 900 or so abortion clinics in the US ask to be reimbursed for the cost of increased security.

"This is a tremendous victory for abortion providers throughout the country," said Ms Susan Hill, president of the National Organisation for Women, which filed the suit 12 years ago.
