Three anti-Belfast Agreement Ulster Unionist MPs today urged RUC Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan to resist pressure to scale down security in the North.
The delegation, led by Mr Jeffrey Donaldson, emerged from a meeting with Mr Flanagan saying they feared more "concessions" would be made to republicans in the latest round of political negotiations.
Lagan Valley MP Mr Donaldson said he and Mr William Ross and the Rev Martin Smyth wanted to present an alternative view.
Mr Donaldson pointed to attacks in Derry city, Claudy in Co Derry, Cookstown in Co Tyrone and near Armagh city over the past two weeks as well as a series of pipe bombs blamed on loyalist paramilitaries.
He also attacked the SDLP for demanding the disbandment of the RUC full-time reserve and the closure of Gough Barracks interrogation centre in Armagh city.
"It is important that the government does not make concessions in terms of compromising the security of the people of Northern Ireland. That has to be their primary responsibility," he said.
