Two sisters who were beaten up in their home in Strabane last week were freed on bail in the High Court in Belfast yesterday, pending appeals.

Donna Kelly (24) and her sister Deboragh (21) were attacked by six masked men who burst into their home and beat them with baseball bats, spiked clubs and hammers.

The court was told the attack took place within hours of the sisters arriving home after being freed on bail. Three days later they were jailed at Strabane Magistrates Court. They were released by Mr Justice Campbell, who described the attack on them as "despicable". He directed them to report to the police daily and said they must stay in their home between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
