Two men in their 40s have been killed in separate crashes in Co Monaghan.

A man died when the lorry he was driving crashed off the main R190 Cootehill to Ballybay road at 1.30pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other vehicles involved.

In the other incident, a motorcyclist died in a head-on collision with a car at Aghalisk on the N54 between Clones and Monaghan town at about 10.30am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk, where a postmortem will take place. There were no other injuries reported.

Garda forensic collision investigators attended the scene of both incidents and the roads were closed for several hours.

Yesterday evening, a motorcyclist in his 30s was killed when he crashed on the Crossakiel circuit. He was taking part an event as part of the annual Kells Motorbike Road Races. His body was taken Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan for a postmortem.

Meanwhile a woman in her 50s is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a truck while horse riding this morning in Co Cork. The incident happened at abouat 10am on the R666 road from Fermoy to Ballyduff.

Gardaí said the driver of the truck, also in his 50s, was also taken to Cork University Hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

In Co Fermanagh, two men in their 20s were seriously injured when up to three motorcycles were involved in a crash at 2am this morning on the Concession Road in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.
