TWO MEN arrested by the PSNI in south Armagh after a taxi driver was forced to drive them across the Border from Castleblayney on Monday night are not thought to have any dissident republican associations.

Earlier, a 38-year-old Castleblayney woman was arrested when a firearm was discovered during a search by gardaí at a house at Ardnalorgan, Castleblayney.

The car chase began when the two men returned to the house at Ardnalorgan where they were challenged by gardaí. The men, aged 19 and 39, allegedly then threatened gardaí with what is believed to have been a second firearm and forced the local taxi driver to drive off with gardaí in pursuit.

The car crossed the Border into Co Armagh, where the two men were arrested by the PSNI. They are being held in Armagh.

A Garda source said yesterday that there was no dissident republican involvement in the Castleblayney incidents.
