Two Derry men charged with explosives offences in Co Donegal were released on bail by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday. Mr Thomas Ashe Mellon (23) of Cromore Gardens, and Mr Raymond Griffith (34) of Slievemore Park, were charged last month with having explosive substances at Balleeghan, Co Donegal, on June 24th.

They were freed on their own independent cash bail of £1,000 each and independent sureties of £10,000 each. They must report three times a week to Burnfoot Garda station and were remanded to October 5th.

The two were charged with having explosive substances including three bags of fertiliser, weighing scales, beer kegs and other equipment. They were arrested after gardai stopped a van outside Letterkenny.
