Bordeaux - The trial of Mr Maurice Papon (87) for crimes against humanity during the second World War was adjourned yesterday after he complained he was feeling poorly.

Mr Papon said he was feeling unwell, as a surprise witness, Ms Christian Hippolyte, was due to testify. Ms Hippolyte, in her 70s, was a secretary for Mr Papon during the war, but only recently said she was prepared to testify.

The trial of the former secretary general at the Bordeaux prefecture in charge of "Jewish affairs" was adjourned until Monday afternoon. Mr Papon is accused of deporting around 1,500 Jews to Nazi death camps.
