Tipperary, fielding a team with five new faces, overcame the challenge of Waterford in the Walsh Cup in Clonmel this afternoon.

Last year's Munster finalists, who were without the services of All Star forward Declan Browne, won by a single point, the final score showing 1-08 to 2-04.

Meanwhile, former Dublin manager, Tommy Carr, enjoyed a winning start to his reign in Roscommon after guiding his charges to a 1-9 to 1-7 win over Sligo in the Connacht League at Markeviecz Park.
