The Arabic television channel gave no further details and it is not immediately clear if the group is the same as Jama'at al-Tawhid and Jihad, which is headed by al-Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Elsewhere, an Iranian photographer detained by Iraqi police in the holy Shia city of Najaf last month was released today, his editor said.
