Three people have been killed in two separate car crashes overnight.

In Co Meath, a 34-year-old man died when his car crashed into a ditch on the Navan to Slane Road at Dunmoe.

He was the sole occupant of the car and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash, which happened at around 4.00 a.m. His body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.

He was the fourth person to die on the roads in the Republic this weekend.

A man and a woman were also killed in Co Antrim.

They were travelling in separate cars which collided just after 6.00 a.m. on the Belfast to Larne road near Ballynure.

Another man is in a serious condition in hospital.

The 32-year-old woman who died was from the Larne area and  was driving to work at Belfast International Airport when the collision occurred.

Meanwhile, the woman who died in a car crash at Macetown, Co Westmeath yesterday has been named as Laura Kenny (26), from  Brookfield, Mullingar.
