THREE men from Dublin's Finglas area are facing criminal proceedings after a raid on the home of a pensioner in Swords on Monday.

The men threatened Mr John Harford (76) with a knife during the attack. after entering his home at Kileek through the back door at around 9 p.m. They held the knife to his throat and ripped the telephone from its sockets, before ransacking the house for 20 minutes.

They stole £130 in cash, as well as a bank book, jewellery, two bottles of whiskey and a television set, before leaving the scene in a stolen car.

The raiders' car was spotted by gardai a short time later heading towards Blanchardstown. After a chase during which a Garda car was damaged, they were eventually caught and taken to Finglas Garda station.
