A cyclist was killed this afternoon near the village of Annacotty outside Limerick city when his bicycle was involved in a collision with a van at 2pm.

The man in his 40s who was from Limerick city died instantly.

Meanwhile, a man (24) died in hospital following a road crash in Co Tyrone.

The victim had been taken to the Erne hospital in Enniskillen after the crash near Fintona shortly before midnight last night.

He sustained serious head injuries when his silver Mitsubishi left the Tattymoyle Road and struck a tree. The PSNI in Omagh are appealing for information.

The PSNI tonight said another man had died in a separate road crash in Co  Armagh.

The victim, who was in his 60s, died in hospital after the three wheel vehicle  he was driving crashed on the Ballygroobany Road in Richill at around 2pm.

Meanwhile gardaí have named the two men who were killed in a road traffic collision in Co Monaghan yesterday.

Michael Walsh (53) of Beaufort Place, Navan, Co Meath and Frank Keenan (77) from Brackagh, Broomfield, Co Monaghan, died in the crash involving a lorry and two vans on the N2 between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross.

It is understood the driver of one of the vans died at scene. The driver of the second van died later from his injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
