A THIRD man was charged yesterday evening over a botched attempted armed robbery of a jewellery shop on Dawson Street, in Dublin city centre last Friday.
Three men entered the Dawson Jewellers and were confronted by members of staff and the public. One required hospital treatment after he was tackled by shop owner Ken McDonagh.
On Monday, two men, Clive Kavanagh (41), of Portland Row and Michael Martin (25), of Oriel Street, were charged with the robbery of €100,000 worth of Rolex and Cartier jewellery and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Both were refused bail and remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court tomorrow.
Yesterday evening at a late sitting of the Dublin District Court, Glen Kavanagh (34), of Oriel Street, was also charged with robbery and possessing a firearm in connection with the incident.
Garda Eugene McCarthy told Judge David McHugh the defendant, who had been released from hospital care on Monday, replied: “I had not got a shotgun in my possession” when he was cautioned. Garda McCarthy objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence. He agreed with defence solicitor Yvonne Bambury that the accused was taken from the shop by ambulance.
Ms Bambury said her client had been intensive care in St James’s Hospital and was unconscious until Saturday afternoon. Judge McHugh was also told the accused received stitches to his head.
Judge McHugh refused bail and remanded Mr Kavanagh in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on November 17th next. Legal aid was granted.
