Tergat drops Dublin cross-country

Paul Tergat, five-time world cross-country champion,

has pulled out of the Kenyan team for next month's IAAF championships in Dublin, athletics officials in Nairobi said today.

Tergat, winner of the world title between 1995-99 finished third in the men's 12 km race during the Nairobi international cross-country on Saturday and was included in the 43-member Kenyan squad.

But the air force sergeant has changed his mind about the Leopardstown race on March 23rd and 24th and instead wants to concentrate on practice for his debut London marathon appearance on April 22nd.

The 1999 world cross-country silver medallist Patrick Ivuti will replace Tergat.
