Movement of Atlantic storms is to be tracked by an international team of meteorologists and research scientists who will be based at Shannon Airport early in the new year. The field experiment, known as Fastex, aims to improve weather forecasts, particularly for countries like Ireland on the western mid latitude edge of Europe.

The team will use a number of research aircraft from Meteo France, the British Met Office and the US and will be supported by Met Eireann. Aer Rianta will also provide logistical assistance for aircraft as well as other communications equipment.
