Doctors at Tallaght Hospital have voted in favour of strike action to oppose feared job cuts. Other unions at the hospital have already voted to strike. In the Irish Medical Organisation ballot, 86 per cent of its 130 non-consultant doctors at the hospital voted for strike action "if need be", a spokeswoman said.
Earlier this week, Mr Kevin Bonnar, the chairman of the team sent into the hospital by the Minister for Health, told the hospital board that an extra £1 million would be made available. It would fund 35 of 179 threatened jobs for this year only. There are also hopes that another £1 million will be found when the budget for the Federated Dublin Voluntary Hospitals is finalised.
