Damascus - Syrian authorities detained a parliamentarian on Thursday, two days after he began a hunger strike to demand broader political freedom.

The Syrian People's Assembly (parliament) temporarily waived independent MP Muhammad Al-Homsi's political immunity to allow his interrogation, a relative said.
