A man who attacked another after a fight in a Dublin pub has received a one-year suspended sentence from Judge Yvonne Murphy at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

John Martin (21), of Curlew Road, Drimnagh, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Mr Michael Kennedy on September 17th, 1999.

Garda Niall Banbury told Mr Adrian Mannering, prosecuting, that the incident happened on Eden Quay when Martin and his brother followed the victim from a Fleet Street pub. Mr Kennedy and Martin's brother had earlier been involved in an altercation in the pub. Mr Kennedy received 11 stitches to a laceration in his right wrist following the later assault.

Judge Murphy suspended the sentence because of Martin's guilty plea and because he had initially attempted to defuse the situation.
