A 19-year-old who tried to rape his mother when he was 16 has been given a three-year suspended sentence on condition he receives behavioural therapy and remains under supervision of the Probation Service for four years.
Imposing the suspended sentence yesterday at Galway Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Raymond Groarke warned the youth that if he was convicted of as much as not having a light on his bike, he would be brought back before the court and made serve the sentence.
The youth, accompanied by his father, first appeared before the court in July 2007 when a juvenile, and pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother with intent to rape her on September 16th, 2006, at the family home in a Co Galway location.
The matter had been adjourned on condition the youth avail of help from the Probation Service, and that he abstain from alcohol and stay away from his mother.
