Fifteen primary-school students escaped injury when their school bus collided with a van in Co Offaly yesterday, hospitalising both drivers.

The driver of the bus was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore suffering from a suspected broken leg. The van driver was also taken to hospital with what are thought to be minor injuries.

All 15 pupils, from Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Eoin in Rath, near Birr, were wearing seatbelts and escaped unharmed. They were on their way home when the crash occurred about two kilometres from the school at Russell’s Pen in Rath.
