The Government has betrayed the Louth residents challenging British Nuclear Fuels' Sellafield plant, Labour's public enterprise spokesman has said. Mr Emmet Stagg TD said Fianna Fail had ditched its explicit election commitment to support the residents and had not given "one brass farthing" to the Stop THORP Alliance Dundalk (STAD) group, despite the inclusion of a budget of £200,000 in the Departmental estimates and the Finance Act.
"The preparation of STAD's legal challenge is entering a critical phase, and the absence of Government support is threatening their ability to continue the case", Mr Stagg said.
He added that he would be seeking a Dail debate on the issue next week.
