Government spokesmen were last night refusing to comment on yesterday's meeting between members of the Irish Haemophilia Society and officials of the Chief State Solicitor's Office.
The society sought the meeting to ascertain whether legal costs at the Haemophilia and HIV Infection Inquiry would be paid by the State.
A spokesman for the Department of Health confirmed that a meeting had taken place "to discuss the Department's offer for exceptional financial assistance" but declined to comment on the outcome. A spokesman for the society said it had received certain proposals which it would consider next week.
