Sony is "studying business co-operation in the mobile phone handset segment with LM Ericsson AB", the company said today.
But Sony said details of any alliance talks have not been decided.
The statement followed a Japan Broadcasting report saying Sony and Ericsson are planning to consolidate their mobile phone operations.
