Athens - The Greek Prime Minister, Mr Costas Simitis, won a vote of confidence in parliament yesterday, but still faced opposition from his own party over measures aimed at bringing Greece into European Monetary Union.

Mr Simitis mustered 163 votes in the 300-seat house, while 136 opposition deputies voted against him. One conservative deputy was absent.
