Sofia - Bulgaria's ex-king Simeon II vowed to bring his country into NATO and the European Union as he was sworn in as Prime Minister, becoming the first former monarch to take office in Eastern Europe.

The former king, who went into exile as a child in 1946 after the communists took control of Bulgaria after the second World War, took his oath of office before parliament and Orthodox Patriarch Maxim.
