A Sinn Fein councillor was charged in Belfast yesterday with obstructing an RUC constable. Mr Patrick McGeown (39) from Churchill House, was remanded on bail. The charge related to an incident at Ardoyne earlier this month after police stopped a car at Conway Street.

Mr Patrick Molloy (42), of Bingnian Drive, Andersonstown, and Mr Patrick McShane (51), of Divis Towers, were also charged arising out of the incident. Defence solicitor, Mr Kevin Winters, said the three defendants had lodged complaints alleging ill treatment by police.
