Community leaders are working to restore calm after sectarian clashes between Catholics and Protestants along the peace-line in north Belfast over the weekend. Loyalists yesterday hurled petrol bombs over the peace-line at Catholic houses in Rosevale Street in the Oldpark area. Six devices were thrown. One hit the roof of a house but caused only smoke damage.
The incident is believed to be a reprisal for attacks on two Protestant houses in the district on Saturday in which four people were injured. A group of about 30 nationalist youths smashed windows in the houses on the Oldpark Road.
A man in one house needed hospital treatment for a head wound and a couple and their teenage daughter in the other house suffered minor injuries.
