An air and sea search off the Co Cork coast for a crewman who fell overboard early this morning has been called off due to deteriorating visibility.

The man fell overboard at around 7.30 a.m. from an Irish-registered Spanish-owned trawler while the boat was fishing around 60 miles off Mizen Head.

A helicopter from Waterford, an RAF Sea King helicopter from Cornwall, the Irish naval vessel L.E Orla, and a Casa 252 fixed win aircraft were involved in the search.

Two passing merchant ships also assisted in the search.

The man was wearing a lifejacket and bright yellow oil skins that should have made him visible to the search vessels.
