Gardaí are still searching for a convicted armed robber who escaped from a Cork court today. It is the third time he escaped from custody.
Niall Fitzpatrick from Mayfield in Cork was due to be called at a hearing in the District Court at Anglesea Street this morning when he escaped Garda custody and ran through the court into the Judges chambers and out onto the street. He made his getaway in a car.
Gardaí and prison officers immediately gave chase through the court.
A search operation was immediately started for Fitzpatrick (35) who is five feet nine inches in height, of medium build and with brown hair and blue eyes.
Last January, Fitzpatrick was on the run for two days after escaping custody while being escorted to Cork prison. He was in court today being charged with unlawfully escaping custody relating to the January incident.
Fitzpatrick also escaped from Limerick Prison in the mid-90s.
