A major search is continuing this afternoon off the coast of Co Sligo for a man who went missing while out walking yesterday afternoon.

The Sligo Bay lifeboat began searching for the man along the coast of Drumcliff Bay and Sligo Bay at Raghley Point early this morning.

An Air Corps helicopter from the Finner base in Donegal and the Bundoran Lifeboat are also taking part in the search operation.

The man’s dog ran back from the Bay yesterday, but with no sign of its owner locals raised the alarm in the early hours, the Marine Department said.

The man, in his late 30s, often walked in the bay area collecting driftwood with his dog.
