A convicted armed robber has escaped from a prison van while in transit from Dublin to Cork.
The 24-year-old man threatened a prison officer with a syringe, while the van was stopped at a petrol station in the Rathcoole area of Dublin yesterday evening.
The prisoner made off on foot. A Garda search is underway.
The man is serving his 10-year sentence for armed robbery in Cork. He had been in Dublin for a court appearance.
