Russia supports a draft UN Security Council resolution put forward by Britain to lift sanctions imposed on Libya after the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, the Russian news agency Interfax said today.

"We think Libya has fulfilled all the demands from the UNSecurity Council," Interfax quoted Mr Andrei Granovsky, head of the Foreign Ministry's Department of International Organisations, as saying.

"That is why we are in favour of lifting thesesanctions."
