Beirut - A group of Islamic militants in Tehran yesterday put a fresh bounty on the head of Salman Rushdie, only two weeks after the Iranian government dissociated itself from a death decree against the British writer.
The new threat came from ultra-conservatives controlling the Association of Hizbullah Students at Tehran University. This group offered a reward of 1 billion riyals (£229,000) "for any person who carries out the verdict against him, or for his family if he dies as a martyr" in the attempt.
