REQUESTS for the disclosure of salary details of RTE's top presenters will be looked at objectively once the State broadcaster comes under the ambit of the Freedom of Information Act, the Information Commissioner, Mr Kevin Murphy, has confirmed.

RTE is due to come under the terms of the Act next year, Mr Murphy said, during question time at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance and the Public Service.

Responding to committee chairman Mr Michael Ahern, Mr Murphy said he had heard RTE say the information would not be "releaseable" at any stage because of a confidentiality clause in presenters' contracts. However, he would look objectively at requests for this information if and when they arose.
