NewsTalk 106 was reported to be seeking another household name to head its line-up after Eamon Dunphy announced in June he was leaving his early morning slot at the station.

It emerged earlier this year that RTÉ, which earns €170 million in licence fee revenue, paid Duffy €279,149 in 2004.

Duffy, whose show attracts around 340,000 listeners, is due to have a 15-minute longer slot when he returns to the programme in the autumn.
