JERUSALEM - Efforts by the US peace negotiator, Mr Dennis Ross, to break the deadlock over an Israeli withdrawal from Hebron made little headway yesterday as new Arab Israeli clashes erupted in the West Bank town.

Mr Ross met Israel's Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, before going to Gaza to meet the Palestinian president, Mr Yasser Arafat.
