Two masked raiders escaped with cash yesterday afternoon after holding up Kilmainhamwood post office in north Meath.

Gardai said the men spoke with Dublin accents and escaped in a black Honda Civic car that was stolen earlier in the day from Kingscourt in Co Cavan.

It is understood that the raiders were confronted by a man with a shotgun who was in the house adjacent to the post office.

He discharged a shot into the floor of the post office and the raiders left, dropping their own firearm.
